  • Denver will soon welcome two new hotels:  The 230-room Four Seasons Hotel Denver is planned to open in the winter of 2009 and will be located just 2 blocks from the Colorado Convention Center.   The 202-room Ritz-Carlton is planned to open in the fall of 2007 and will conclude am $88 million refurbishment of what was the Embassy Suites. 


  • Loews Miami Beach Hotel in South Beach completed a $21 million improvement project with the April opening of the new Elemis Spa.


  • The Signature at MGM Grand in Las Vegas has announced the planned July opening of its third tower that will mark the completion of the complex.  The condo-hotel concept features an entirely non-gaming, non-smoking environment.  Set apart from the bustling MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, the three towers provide exclusive entrances and private lobbies and offer separate check-in facilities from the main hotel. Each tower includes 576 one-bedroom, two-bedroom and junior suites outfitted with king beds; 300-count Anichini sheets; marble and granite bathrooms; Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs; June Jacobs spa products; Sub-Zero, Miele and Bosch kitchenette appliances; ultra-thin LCD flat-screen high definition televisions; high-speed Internet access; and private balconies. The Signature at MGM Grand also features a fitness center, multiple heated outdoor pools, poolside cabanas and 24-hour concierge service.   • The 405-room Wyland Waikiki has reopened after completing renovations.  In celebration, the property is offering a Wy-Wait Room and Breakfast package starting at $169 per night, double occupancy, valid through Nov. 30, 2007.


  • THE HISTORIC FOUR QUEENS HOTEL & CASINO completed a $20 million renovation project meant to reinvigorate the iconic downtown Las Vegas property. All rooms were upgraded with new furniture, carpet, bedding, lighting and 32-inch, high-definition, flat-screen, LCD televisions. The casino was refurbished and the gaming machines were upgraded. The hotel also added a walk-up deli and coffee bar and added The Chicago Brewing Company, a combination restaurant, brew pub and cigar bar. And nightlife impresario Lance Sterling is bringing his LA nightspot Canyon Club to the Four Queens: The 10,000-square-foot Vegas Canyon Club will offer dinner and live entertainment nightly from dance bands, comedians and nationally recognized performers. Renovations still to be completed include a remodeled player's club center and VIP lounge, faster elevators and improvements to entrances and the parking garage.   • HILTON HAWAII has revealed details of its HHonors Mahalo Program for 2007. A stay at any of six Hilton Family properties in Hawaii earns up to 10,000 HHonors bonus points. Participating Hilton properties include the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Beach, the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio (as of April 2007) and Doubletree's Wyland Waikiki, and Alana Hotel-Waikiki. Guests at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hilton Kauai Beach Resort, Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio, and Alana Hotel-Waikiki also receive a plush bathrobe valued at $85.


  • GRAND WAILEA RESORT HOTEL & SPA has increased their mandatory daily Resort Charge of $20  to $25 per guest room per night.  This daily resort charge includes a floral lei greeting upon arrival; a welcome Mai Tai punch (nonalcoholic) at the designated check-in area; unlimited local, toll-free, and credit card calls (no access fee); high-speed internet access in all guestrooms; coffee or tea in guestroom; nightly turndown service; unlimited use of Spa Grande's cardiovascular and strength training facilities; participation in Sunrise Power Walks and Yoga classes; admission to twice-daily scuba clinics and water aerobics; participation in scheduled Garden and Art tours; use of self-parking facilities and shuttle service to scheduled stops throughout the Wailea area.


  • THE MAUNA KEA BEACH HOTEL will remain closed until late 2008. The iconic property owned by Prince Hotels was closed after damage from a series of earthquakes on Oct. 15. The $50 million budgeted for the hotel goes well beyond earthquake-caused repairs and includes planned upgrades to property. The remake will include the adjacent Mauna Kea Golf Course, which will close in May to be re-grassed and have its irrigation systems upgraded. The work on the course will be done by Reese Jones, son of the course's designer, Robert Trent Jones Sr.


  • THE FOUR SEASONS RESORT MAUI has completed a $50 million upgrade that included remodeled rooms and bathrooms and the addition of Duo as the hotel's signature restaurant. The hotel is offering complimentary fifth night on daily rates that start at $570. The offer is valid until Dec. 18 (blackout dates: Nov. 17 to 25).


  • THE SHERATON WAIKIKI has completed a $55 million room renovation that is being marketed with the launch of the "Discover Aloha Experience." The program is part of a brand repositioning for a number of Starwood properties in Hawaii that takes aim at enhancing the guest experience with activities like poolside "dive-in" movies and sunset country line dancing, daily cultural classes in the lobby and retail areas featuring products made in Hawaii.

  • Starwood Hotels and Resorts expands in Japan with two new Sheratons reflagged in April:  the Sheraton Miyako Hotel, Osaka, and the Sheraton Miyako Hotel, Tokyo.  Upon completion of renovations, the Sheraton in Osaka will offer 575 guestrooms and the Sheraton in Tokyo will offer 492 guest rooms.

  • Melia Cabo Real recently underwent a $1.3 million renovation, giving all-inclusive bars and restaurants and 305 guestrooms an updated feel.  The resort also offers the oceanfront M Experience  premium floors featuring  flat-screen televisions, 24/7 vacation assistance and mini-bars stocked with premium options.  Activities include snorkeling, horseback riding, tennis, wall climbing and a zip line, as well as championship golf at the Cabo Real Complex.  Indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, hosting up to 1,140 guests, come complete with Internet service and a professionally trained staff.  Located 20 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas, a new shuttle bus transports guests to the center of town three times daily.


HOTEL NEWS AND SPECIAL OFFERS:  CHINA

  • Shanghai will soon have a new posh destination, as the Place Hotel and Spa is set to open early next year.  The boutique hotel will be the only one in Shanghai with a guests-only policy.  The property will be located in Jing'an Park close to two metro lines, as well as the Central  YanAn elevated highway.  All guestrooms will have access to 24-hour butler service, full office  facilities and Wi-Fi.  Other creature comforts include a personal espresso machine, a printer and a deep bath with views over the park and the city.  When completed, the hotel will be a main part of the Park Place development on Nanjing Lu West.
